Business Consultant – Macon Position Summary Join an environment that has been named by Georgia Trend as a “Best Place to Work”. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) seeks a dedicated consultant to provide counseling and education to small business clients in the Macon area. The role requires a broad base of business knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Key Responsibilities Provide high‑quality individual instruction to entrepreneurs, business owners, and managers in areas such as business plans, market feasibility, financial viability, operations and legal structures. Develop, deliver, and evaluate business training programs, seminars, and conferences responsive to local business needs. Create and maintain instructional materials, curricula, and other resources, and secure qualified outside instructors as needed. Directedly connect clients to additional resources; disseminate pertinent information through various media. Represent the SBDC as an advocate for business development, working collaboratively with private sector partners, economic development units, and government agencies. Engage in public‑relations activities, including speeches, presentations, committee participation, and outreach to local chambers, banks, universities, and media. Assist in the development, implementation, and updating of the organization’s strategic and action plans, aligning them with local small‑business needs. Participate in sponsorship acquisition strategies, co‑sponsorship of programs, and grant applications relevant to entrepreneurship. Document activities in the Unity system, maintain client files, and provide impact information for SBA reporting. Support continuous improvement through participation in internal committees, center reviews, and special projects. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Preferred: Master’s degree in business or a related field. Good working knowledge of all business functions, including financial analysis, business research, marketing, and accounting. Knowledge of the local economic‑development community, prior banking or accounting experience, and networking ability are pluses. Familiarity with University and SBDC programs and operating philosophy and/or relevant management background preferred. Physical Demands & Administrative Requirements Position requires travel within Macon and surrounding counties. Driving is required; the role may use a company vehicle. Credit check required due to financial responsibilities. Background investigation including criminal and credit checks, and reference verification is mandatory. Compensation and Benefits Salary: $80,000 per year. Defined benefits retirement plan and other benefits according to university policy.
